Laminar cortical dynamics of conscious speech perception: neural model of phonemic restoration using subsequent context in noise.
How are laminar circuits of neocortex organized to generate conscious speech and language percepts? How does the brain restore information that is occluded by noise, or absent from an acoustic signal, by integrating contextual information over many milliseconds to disambiguate noise-occluded acoustical signals? How are speech and language heard in the correct temporal order, despite the influen...
متن کاملA statistical phonemic segment model for speech recognition based on automatic phonemic segmentation
This paper presents a method of constructing a statistical phonemic segment model (SPSM) for a speech recognition system based on speaker-independent context-independent automatic phonemic segmentation. In our recent research, we proposed the phoneme recognition system using the template matching method with the same segmentation, and confirmed that 5-frame-fixed time sequence of feature vector...
متن کاملA Quantitative Categorization of Phonemic Dialect Features in Context
We test a method of clustering dialects of English according to patterns of shared phonological features. Previous linguistic research has generally considered phonological features as independent of each other, but context is important: rather than considering each phonological feature individually, we compare the patterns of shared features, or Mutual Information (MI). The dependence of one p...
متن کاملAn 86, 000-Word Recognizer Based on Phonemic Models
We have developed an algorithm for the automatic conversion of dictated English sentences to written text, with essentially no restriction on the nature of the material dictated. We require that speakers undergo a short training session so that the system can adapt to their individual speaking characteristics and that they leave brief pauses between words. We have tested our algorithm extensive...
متن کاملPrediction of Keyword Spotting Performance Based on Phonemic Contents
In word spotting, one of the main difficulties is the false alarms, especially for small words. A model is presented for predicting the false alarm rate on the basis of the phonemic content of a word. This model is tested for a word spotter that has been used in the TREC Spoken Document Retrieval (SDR) track. Finally, results are presented for the retrieval task.
